WORKSHOP
Coaching and Learning to Learn in Experiential Learning
Learning to learn is becoming more important these days – it is kind of a meta-competence
because if you can do that, then you can learn what you want! Born out of the experience of two Grundtvig long-term projects (via Experientia and L2L), this workshop aims to show what kinds of ways EL facilitators can work on being coaches of learning to learn: what kinds of approach are helpful? what types of question might be useful? what do we need to know about ourselves first?
The role of trainer
The role of trainer in experiential learning courses has its own specificity. We will look closer what is this specificity. We will explore how trainers can position themselves with the group what are specific responsibilities of the trainer during different phases of the experiential learning process. We will try to combine the theory with experience and opinions of participants of the workshop.
Group dynamics and the implications for facilitating an experiential program
Starting from our own experiences we will build up a combined model of group development and look at what can be the role of an experiential trainer to facilitate the development of a group. The objectives are:
- Have insight in how groups develop
- How an experiential facilitator can help the group to develop
- Group development as a safe ground to facilitate personal development
- info on theory and concepts of group dynamics
How is silence talking to you?
Almost everyone has an opinion about silence and most people are able to take a stand one way or the other. Silence is powerful in its own way and the context in which the silence takes place influences the experiential meaning of the silence.
Silence or a change in the mode of communication has an important place in experiential learning, as it increases the search for alternative ways of communication and adds a challenge to the learning process and to the way it is lived. Silence is also a means to hear your own voice better, as the noise of your own talk and that of the others is reduced.
In this workshop we will briefly explore silence in a group.
Experiential learning and outdoor education with young people
This workshop of “Outdoor education” is addressed to facilitators working with teenagers. The participants can experience an adventure inspired by “The lord of the rings” with the aims of exploring and analysing the meanings of experiential learning and outdoor education and they will experience what to take into consideration when working with children and teenagers.
Location
With its 8500 hectares, the Circeo National Park is one of the smallest but more charming Italian parks. The Circeo National Park is to be considered unique in Europe, as in such a limited space many environmental systems coexist: the Circeo promontory, the forest, the lagoon and the coast lakes, the dunes along the shore and the island of Zannone. The Park is also known as “biodiversity park”, that in April-May expresses all its magnificence. Since May it’s the ideal place for outdoor activities and for many that period is already to be considered summer time as one can swim in the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean sea.
